During the autumn of 2023, I had the opportunity to work with DePaul University’s Big Shoulders Books as a publicity intern and help publish Chicago Mosaic: Immigrant Stories of Objects Kept, Lost, or Left Behind. My role on the project was to develop a publishing strategy and pitch the novel to media outlets. Under the professional supervision of publicist Julia Borcherts, I created a one-sheet for the book and researched and composed a media outreach list for both digital and traditional publicity. Then, I created a variety of emails to send to different outlets such as Chicago print media, Chicago online publications, Social Justice publications, and Bookstagram. I successfully acquired publicity in the Chicago Reader and on Bookstagram from @booksonmysidetable and @shobizreads. I also created a sample marketing initiative for an event at the Harold Washington Library and social media content for the publisher's Instagram.
